This is the last set of the semester. I really wanted to post up this song Power of Your Name for the entire break but either couldn't cause I wasn't at school or was lazy. I really love this song for its powerful lyrics and awesome guitar. A lot of times I will leave my zune on shuffle and will hear most of the songs on it but once in a while I will really "discover" a song that I really like even though I may have heard it many times already. This happened to me for this song this weekend and I have been reflecting about it. Its weird that when I think about the brokenness of this world, especially in light of the terrorist attacks in India that I find more reason to be thankful for what I have and what God will do through His people.

Week of 11/17/2008
This weekend for me was a humbling and quite honestly a bitter time for me. I was reminded again of how little I can do and how weak I really am. It was sobering to see how powerless we are to change the hearts of our fellow man and that power really resides with God. That despite the clearest arguments and the strongest of feelings for those that I love, I am unable to turn hearts towards God on my own. Changing hearts is God's work through His people. Yea, I'm not the best at organizing my thoughts at 4am but I did what I could. I picked out this set with this on my heart as well as the fact that this is the last large group before Thanksgiving. Through praise I hope that the power of the Gospel would be magnified, in both what it enables us to do and what it reminds us we cannot do, and also to recognize how much we have to be thankful for.
The first song this week is old and I don't have mp3 of it.
Worthy is the Lamb
To Know Your Name - Hillsong - Saviour King
Let My Words Be Few - Matt Redman - The Father's Song
When I Think About the Lord - Shane & Shane - Carry Away
Just a note, format is "Title of song" - "Artist name" - "Album name" so you guys can find the songs to download easier.

It's been a while
I'm still alive and posting. Sorry about the site not working for a while. No idea what happened but its working again. No large group this week so no set. Instead I'll post a song that I'm learning to play for my youth group lockin over thanksgiving break.
Your Name High - Hillsong
Its a fun song, I think. Anyway I just started a book, Worship Matters by Bob Kauflin. I'm only a couple pages in but its really good and definitely helps give perspective and insight as a worship leader. I'll add more about the book as I read more. Well, enjoy the new song and the rainy weekend =).

Almost break! Week of 10/27/08
The past week I had such a difficult time focusing on anything. I think I was so burnt out from school work that I really was zoning out for the entire week. This carried on through til sunday where I went into church pretty tired and not really wanting to be there. I was, however, really touched by praise and the message. The songs we sang really hit me hard and the message was about worshiping in spirit and in truth.
"God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth" -John 4:24
I think the reality of this had slipped in my life because of all the busyness and distraction. I want to make this my focus again each day as I spend time with God each day and especially as I lead during large group.

We Fall Down - Chris Tomlin
Reign in Us - Starfield
Unfailing Love - Chris Tomlin
Saviour King - Hillsong

Week of 10/19/2008
This week has been ridiculously busy for me so far. Coming off several weekends back to back full of stuff, I came into this week with so much stuff to take care of. I noticed I had spent very little time attending to God and I could tell this was taking its toll on me spiritually and physically. Dana suggested the song Amazed, as it seems to capture the our feelings of awe after seeing God work so powerfully at the retreat. Being in a weird limbo between being so busy and yet in awe of God I picked this set as a response to my renewed amazement of who God is and what He does as well as a desire to draw near and hunger for Him in all circumstances.
Amazed - Desperation Band
The Heart of Worship - Matt Redman
How Great is Our God - Chris Tomlin
Forever - Chris Tomlin
We Are Hungry - Charlie Hall

Jesus Messiah
Chris Tomlin - Jesus Messiah
This is a new song on Chris Tomlin's Hello Love album. What I love about this song is that is so simple, and yet so powerfully speaks the gospel message. I think the reason I like this song so much is because it is so direct. This song has the great ability to remind us the message of the cross, that the one who died on it is indeed Messiah - our savior.

Reflection on Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)
This song had been on my heart all week. I think just the reminder of grace spoke so powerfully to me. Many times I find myself so caught up in Christian language that such powerful words become stale. "Amazing grace, how sweet the sound..." This enduring hymn has the power to remind me of the incredible power of grace and the sin that it has overcome. In a strange way it both humbles me and renews me.
First real post! Week of 10/6/08
Chris Tomlin - Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)
Hillsong United - Til I See You
Bluetree - God of this City
Hillsong United - Solution
Chris Tomlin - Sing, Sing, Sing
As a note, the keys will have to be tweaked a bit. Also, praise team, listen carefully to Amazing Grace cause the melody is slightly different from the hymn. Enjoy~
